Base Layer ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Base Layer mobile application (the "App").
Information We Collect
Base Layer accesses the following data through Apple HealthKit with your explicit permission:
- Workout and exercise data (type, duration, distance, calories)
- Heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV)
- Active energy and resting energy
- Sleep duration and quality
- Step count and movement data
We may also collect:
- Account information you provide (e.g., name, email address)
- Training goals and preferences you set within the App
- App usage and interaction data
- Device information (model, OS version) for troubleshooting
How We Use Your Information
Your data is used to:
- Calculate daily readiness scores based on your biometrics
- Generate adaptive, AI-powered training plans
- Provide personalized coaching insights and recommendations
- Track capability scores across aerobic, strength, core, and mobility dimensions
- Improve the App's features and user experience
HealthKit Data
In accordance with Apple's requirements, data obtained through HealthKit is used solely to provide health and fitness functionality within the App. We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or share it with third parties for advertising or data-mining purposes.
AI Processing
Base Layer uses AI (powered by Anthropic) to provide coaching insights. When the AI coach processes your data:
- Only health summaries are sent — never raw health data or personal identifiers
- Processing is stateless — no data is stored on AI servers after the response
- No AI model training is performed on your data
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- With service providers who assist in operating the App (e.g., cloud hosting), under strict confidentiality agreements
- When required by law or legal process
- To protect the rights, safety, or property of Base Layer or its users
Data Storage & Security
Your health and fitness data remains on your device within Apple HealthKit. Data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and security practices.
Data Retention & Deletion
You may delete your data at any time through the App's settings. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Children's Privacy
Base Layer is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App and on this page, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly.
